No heat

The drum spins but the air stays cold. On an electric dryer that points to the thermal fuse, heating element, thermostat, or half of a tripped double breaker. On a gas dryer we test the igniter and the gas valve coils.

Takes two cycles to dry

Usually airflow, not the dryer itself. Lint packs the vent, foil duct gets crushed behind the machine, or the flap on the outside wall sticks shut. We measure airflow at the outside hood before blaming a part.

Won’t start

Check that the door latches and the breaker is on. After that: door switch, start switch, terminal block, a blown thermal fuse on some models, or a tired motor. Tell us if you hear a hum.

Squeals, thumps or rumbles

A squeal is usually an idler pulley or drum bearing. A thump means a worn drum roller or a belt with a flat spot. Grinding is the one to stop for, because it can scar the drum.

Burning smell

Turn the dryer off and unplug it. The usual causes are lint against the heating element, a lint-choked blower housing, or a motor running hot. If the smell is gas, leave the house first.

Shuts off mid-cycle

A restricted vent can trip the high-limit thermostat or thermal fuse. Other causes: a door switch that loses contact, a moisture sensor coated in fabric-softener film, or an oversized load.

What are the most common dryer problems?

Restricted vents and lint buildup, blown thermal fuses, failed heating elements on electric dryers, bad igniters or gas valve coils on gas dryers, and worn belts, rollers and idler pulleys. Restricted airflow is behind more of the others than most people expect.

Why does my dryer spin but not produce heat?

The drum is turning, but the heat circuit has failed or lost power. On an electric dryer, check that both halves of the double breaker are on, then suspect the thermal fuse, heating element or thermostat. On a gas dryer, the igniter or gas valve coils are the usual causes.

Why does my dryer take two cycles to dry clothes?

Restricted airflow is the most common reason. Lint in the vent, a crushed foil duct or a stuck outside flap traps humid air in the drum, so clothes stay damp. Clean the lint screen, check the duct behind the dryer, and make sure the outside hood opens when the dryer runs.

How your dryer repair works

Six steps from the first call to the warranty in your hand: this is how every dryer repair Plano visit works. Read the full walkthrough.

  1. Call or request a repair

Tell us gas or electric, the brand and what the dryer is doing. A photo of the model tag (inside the door frame or on the back panel) helps us plan the right part.

  2. We confirm your appointment

You get a time window, so you know who is coming and roughly when.

  3. Diagnosis with tools, not guesses

Power and breaker first, then vent airflow, then a meter on the failed circuit. On gas dryers we watch the full ignition sequence.

  4. You get the price in writing

Part, labor and fee, itemized. You approve or decline. Nothing is added without asking you.

  5. The repair

We replace the failed part and clear the lint we can reach. If a part has to be ordered, we tell you the timeline before you decide.

  6. Test and warranty

We run the dryer to full heat, check airflow, and give you the parts-and-labor warranty terms in writing.

How long does a dryer repair take?

A technician can usually find the fault within the first 15 to 30 minutes, and many repairs finish in under an hour when the part is on hand. If a part has to be ordered, the repair happens on a second visit, so ask for the expected date.

Dryer repair cost in Plano

Typical dryer repair Plano prices, parts and labor included. Your exact price is written down and approved by you before we start. See the full price guide.

RepairWhat is involvedTypical range
Vent path cleared, airflow restoredLint removed from the duct we can reach, hood and flap checked, airflow measured$100–$200
Thermal fuse or thermostatPart tested and replaced; vent checked so it does not blow again$150–$275
Door switch or start switchSwitch tested and replaced$150–$250
Belt, idler pulley or drum rollersPanel and drum removed, worn parts replaced, drum tested under load$200–$375
Heating element (electric)Element tested and replaced with the matching part$200–$350
Gas igniter or valve coilsIgnition sequence tested, failed part replaced, full cycle rerun$200–$375
Motor, blower wheel or drum bearingLarger job: part and labor both climb$300–$550
Control boardBoard tested; on an older dryer, replacing the machine may make more sense$300–$600+

What moves the price

  • The part. Brand and model decide most of it. A common belt is cheap; a control board for a newer model is not.
  • Access. Stacked units and tight closets take longer.
  • A second visit. If a part has to be ordered, the repair happens on the return trip.
  • The vent. If restricted airflow caused the failure, fixing it is part of fixing the dryer.

How to tell a quote is fair

A fair quote lists the failed part, labor and any fee separately, and the technician can show you the part or the test result that condemned it. Be careful with a quote that replaces several parts without a test behind each one.

Ranges vary by brand and model. Ask us about the service call fee when you book.

How much does dryer repair cost in Plano, TX?

Most dryer repairs in the Plano area run about $150 to $400 including parts and labor. Clearing a vent is at the low end, heating elements, igniters and belts sit in the middle, and motors, bearings and control boards cost the most. You get the exact price in writing before work starts.

How much does it cost to replace a dryer heating element?

In the Plano area, replacing a heating element on an electric dryer typically costs about $200 to $350, parts and labor included. The price depends on the brand and model, and on whether the vent needs clearing so the new element is not damaged by the same overheating.

Both types fail in different places, so we test them differently. We repair both. Read the full guides: gas dryer repair and electric dryer repair.

Smell gas near your dryer?

Leave the house right away. Don’t flip switches or run the dryer. From a safe distance, call 911 and Atmos Energy’s emergency line at 866.322.8667, and don’t go back in until they say it is safe. Once the house is cleared, call us to look at the dryer.

How can I tell if my dryer is gas or electric?

Look at the back of the dryer. An electric dryer has a thick cord for a 240-volt outlet. A gas dryer has a normal 120-volt plug plus a flexible gas line at the back. The model tag inside the door frame also lists the fuel type.

Repair or replace your dryer?

If replacing is the smarter move, we will tell you before you spend anything on a repair. Read the repair or replace guide.

Your situationWhat we usually recommend
Under about 10 years old, small part (fuse, belt, switch, element)Repair. The part costs little and the dryer has years left.
10 to 15 years old, repair well under half the price of a comparable new dryerRepair is usually still good value; most dryers last roughly 10 to 15 years.
Repair approaches half the price of a comparable new dryerReplace, especially on an older unit.
Control board on an older dryerOften replace; the board can cost more than the machine is worth.
Rusted drum or cabinet, or a second major repair in a yearReplace. More money will not fix the underlying wear.
Sound dryer, but the vent is the problemFix the vent. The dryer is fine.

Is it worth repairing a dryer?

Usually, yes. If the dryer is under about 10 to 12 years old and the repair costs well under half the price of a comparable new one, repair wins. Replace it if the repair nears half the cost of new, the drum or cabinet is rusted through, or it has already had a major repair.

Dryer repair case studies

Four common dryer repair Plano jobs, written the way we log them: what the homeowner noticed, what we found, what we did, and how it ended. These are typical cases built from common repair patterns, not specific customers.

Dryer control panel removed, showing the wiring and the model label inside the cabinetElectric dryer

Electric dryer: the drum spins, the clothes stay wet

What the homeowner noticed
Full cycles ending with damp, barely warm clothes, getting worse over a few weeks.
What we found
An open thermal fuse. The vent was packed with lint, which is what caused the fuse to blow.
What we did
Replaced the fuse, cleared the vent path, and tested the thermostat.

Result: Full heat and strong airflow at the outside hood, confirmed before we left. Replacing the fuse alone would likely have blown again.

Dryer motor and pulley assembly inside the cabinetGas dryer

Gas dryer: the igniter glows but there is no flame

What the homeowner noticed
The drum turns and the igniter glows orange, then shuts off with no heat.
What we found
Failed gas valve coils. The igniter itself was fine, so replacing it first would have missed the problem.
What we did
Tested the coils with a meter, replaced them, and ran a full ignition cycle. The gas supply and shutoff valve were not touched.

Result: A steady flame and real heat on the first full cycle.

A dryer that squeals and gets louder

What the homeowner noticed
A high squeal while the drum turns, worse with a full load.
What we found
A worn idler pulley and a stretched belt, found by taking the belt off and spinning the drum by hand.
What we did
Replaced the pulley and belt together and rechecked the drum rollers.

Result: Quiet operation under load. A squeal caught early stays a small repair; grinding means the bearing or rollers are going.

Two cycles to dry in an older Plano home

What the homeowner noticed
Every load needs a second cycle, and the laundry room is a long way from an outside wall.
What we found
A crushed foil duct behind the dryer, lint packed along the run, and an outside flap that opened only partway.
What we did
Cleared the run, replaced the foil duct with rigid metal, freed the flap, and retested airflow.

Result: Drying is back to one normal cycle, and the dryer runs cooler, which is easier on the fuse, thermostat and element.

What Plano homeowners want from a dryer repair company

Public reviews of appliance repair companies across the Dallas area keep returning to the same four things. Here is how we build our service around them.

A person who answers

The most common complaint about repair companies is a call that never gets returned.

Our answer: a person picks up the phone, and web requests get a call back.

An arrival window that holds

Another is a technician who is late or never shows.

Our answer: you get a time window when you book, and we contact you if we are running behind.

A price with no surprises

Prices that change at the door come up again and again.

Our answer: part, labor and fee in writing before work starts, and nothing added without your OK.

A repair that lasts

Repeat failures frustrate people most of all.

Our answer: we test before we replace and check the vent, so the same fault does not come back.

Why call a dryer specialist

We test before we replace

A meter reading, not a hunch. That is how we avoid swapping the wrong part.

We check the vent every visit

Restricted airflow is behind blown fuses and slow drying, so we look every time.

Price before work

Itemized and in writing. Nothing is added without your OK.

Can you fix a dryer yourself?

Some jobs, yes: clean the lint screen and vent, check the breaker, swap a belt or thermal fuse on a simple electric dryer. Unplug it first. Leave gas parts, internal wiring, control boards and anything that smells like burning to a technician.

Should I unplug my dryer before troubleshooting?

Yes. Unplug an electric dryer, or switch off its breaker, before you open any panel, because it carries 240 volts. On a gas dryer, also close the gas shutoff valve before working near gas parts. If you smell gas, leave the house instead.

What Plano customers say

Our dryer was running but barely getting clothes dry. The technician found the problem quickly and explained what needed to be replaced before starting the repair. Everything was working properly when he left.

Sarah M.Plano, TX

The dryer stopped heating the night before I needed to leave town. I called in the morning, got a clear price range, and the repair was completed the same day. The whole process was straightforward.

Daniel R.West Plano

I wasn’t sure if the dryer needed a repair or if it was time to replace it. They checked the main components and explained the options instead of immediately pushing for a replacement. That was really helpful.

Melissa T.Plano, TX

Our gas dryer would start normally but wasn’t producing heat. The technician checked the ignition system and found the issue. He explained the repair before doing the work, which I appreciated.

James W.Legacy area

The dryer started making a loud squealing noise and I didn’t want to keep running it. The technician checked the belt and rollers and explained what was causing the noise. The dryer is quiet again.

About Plano Dryer Pros

A local dryer repair service for Plano homes, run from our office on West Spring Creek Parkway.

We repair clothes dryers, gas and electric, and dryers are what we focus on. That gives our advice a narrow, practical view: what fails, why it fails, and what it should cost to fix.

Our approach is simple. We find the actual fault with a meter instead of swapping parts and hoping. We check the vent on every visit, because restricted airflow sits behind so many failures. We write the price down before any work starts, and we tell you when replacing the dryer is the smarter move.

We keep what we say checkable. Fire statistics come from the National Fire Protection Association, gas emergency guidance from Atmos Energy, and repair steps follow the manufacturer’s manual for your dryer.

What you can count on

  • The full price in writing before work starts
  • Gas and electric dryers, all major brands
  • A warranty on parts and labor
  • Plain answers, including “don’t repair this one”

Dryer vent and lint safety

A slow dryer is more than an annoyance. Restricted airflow makes the dryer run hotter, and lint is fuel. The National Fire Protection Association’s fact sheet gives the scale.

15,970U.S. home fires a year involving clothes dryers or washers (NFPA, 2010–2014 average)
92%of those fires involved clothes dryers
31%were caused by failure to clean, the leading cause

What you can do

  • Clean the lint screen after every load, and wash it with soap and water a couple of times a year.
  • Check the outside hood. The flap should open when the dryer runs, and nothing should be nesting in it.
  • Replace flexible foil duct with rigid or semi-rigid metal where you can.

When to call us

  • Clothes need two cycles, or drying times keep creeping up.
  • The dryer gets hot on the outside, or you smell burning.
  • A thermal fuse has blown more than once.

Source: NFPA, Clothes Dryers and Washing Machines Fact Sheet.

How do I clean a dryer lint screen properly?

Remove the lint after every load. A couple of times a year, wash the screen with warm soapy water and a soft brush, then dry it fully. Fabric-softener film can clog the mesh even when it looks clean, and a blocked screen slows drying and raises fire risk.

Is it safe to leave a dryer running when nobody is home?

Many fire safety guides advise against running a dryer while you are out or asleep, because a lint or heat problem can start a fire with no one there to notice. Keep the vent clean, and run the dryer only when you can check on it.

Dryer brands we repair

  • Samsung
  • LG
  • Whirlpool
  • Maytag
  • GE
  • Kenmore
  • Frigidaire
  • Electrolux
  • Bosch
  • Speed Queen
  • Amana

Have the model number handy when you call. It is on a tag inside the door frame or on the back panel, and it lets us line up the right part. One example of why it matters: LG dryers show a D80 code when they detect restricted airflow, which points to the vent rather than a failed part.

Dryer repair Plano FAQs

Do you repair both gas and electric dryers?

Yes. We repair natural gas and electric clothes dryers, including stacked pairs. On gas dryers we work on the dryer itself: igniter, valve coils, sensor and burner. If the fault is in the gas supply line or shutoff valve, we will say so and point you to a licensed plumber.

What does a dryer repair visit include?

A technician diagnoses the fault at your home, checks the vent path, and gives you the full price in writing. You approve it before anything is replaced. Ask about the service call fee when you book.

How fast can you get to my Plano home?

Call and we will give you the earliest appointment window we have. You will know who is coming and roughly when.

What if the part is not on your truck?

We carry common dryer parts, but not every part for every model. If one has to be ordered, we tell you the expected date before you decide, and the repair happens on the return visit at the price you approved.

Is there a warranty on the repair?

Yes. Repairs come with a warranty on parts and labor, and the terms are given to you in writing.

Do I need to be home during the repair?

An adult should be home to show us the dryer, approve the written price and see the finished repair. You do not have to watch the whole job, though you are welcome to.

What should I do before the technician arrives?

Clear a path to the dryer, find the model number (inside the door frame or on the back panel), and unplug the dryer if it smells like burning. If you smell gas, leave the house and call 911 and Atmos Energy at 866.322.8667 first.

Is it safe to keep using a dryer that takes two cycles to dry?

It is better not to. Restricted airflow makes the dryer run hotter and lets lint build up, and failure to clean is the leading cause of dryer fires in NFPA data. Check the vent and the outside hood, and call us if the problem does not clear.

Why does my dryer thermal fuse keep blowing?

A thermal fuse blows when the dryer overheats, and the usual reason is restricted airflow from a packed vent. Replacing the fuse alone fixes the symptom for a few weeks. We check and clear the vent and test the thermostat so the new fuse lasts.

Do you repair dryers in apartments, condos and rentals?

Yes. Stacked units take a little longer because the top unit has to be worked around. If you manage a rental, tell us when you call so we can plan around your tenant.

What do you not repair?

We repair household clothes dryers. We do not repair hair dryers, freeze dryers, commercial hand dryers or truck air dryers, and we do not do gas piping or electrical panel work.

Which parts of Plano do you serve?

All of Plano, including ZIP codes 75023, 75024, 75025, 75074, 75075, 75093 and 75094, from Legacy West to Downtown Plano and Willow Bend. If you are not sure your address is covered, call and ask.

Should I tip the technician?

Tips are not expected. If you want to say thanks, a review helps us most.
